Dump Truck Wedged Under Bridge

It pays to be aware of all obstacles around you when driving a dump truck, including those above your vehicle. Here's an example of what can happen when a driver took his eye off the potential dangers ahead.
Recently a heavy vehicle struck a bridge abutment and the impact caused the truck to become wedged beneath the overpass. There were no injuries, police said, as crews attempted to free the truck from the bridges grip. All lanes were blocked as the rescue effort continued. Eventually, Police were allowing vehicles to pass on the left shoulder however traffic was backed up for miles as crews cleared the crash site.
The driver was most likely not travelling at high speed when the accident occured as the dump truck remained largely intact. What usually happens in cases like these is that the tray becomes stuck under the bridge whilst the rest of the vehicle breaks free and goes hurtling along the highway minus the load. These types of accidents happen with alarming regularity, so please don't forget to look up, and know the height of your vehicle! Staying aware of height restriction sign posts will also alert a driver to the hazard ahead.
